This article lists the Bara, Shounen-ai and Yaoi series that began their release in 2023. The Japanese manga, Korean manhwa, Chinese manhua, to anime seasons, movies, then novels and games including visual novels are listed by the month the first entry was released.

2023 Series[]

A number of anime releases took place throughout 2023. The Atarashii Joushi wa Do Tennen/My New Boss Is Goofy manga first began in 2018 before being adapted into a twelve anime anime season in October this year. For the Mask Danshi wa Koishitakunai noni/Mask Danshi: This Shouldn't Lead to Love manga that began in 2019, that would receive drama CD adaptions starting in 2021 before having an anime OVA in October this year. The Hirano to Kagiura anime movie would be available in February, which focuses on characters from the Sasaki to Miyano series that first commenced in 2016. On the very same day there would be the Sasaki to Miyano Movie: Sotsugyou-hen movie as well. These follows on from the Sasaki to Miyano anime episodes that were released in 2022. For Shitasaki kara Koi that behan in 2022 there would be the first of multiple anime episodes in March this year, which would be followed by the Shitasaki kara Koi 2nd Season in 2024 then Shitasaki kara Koi 3rd Season starting in 2025. Various forms of anime would be released, such as the chibi style Cherry Mahou Mini Gekijou shorts for the 30-sai made Doutei dato Mahoutsukai ni Nareru Rashii/Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! manga that began in 2018

ONA were a part of this, and with 4 Week Lovers as an example, these episodes began airing in April. Another manhwa Beauty and the Brawn that began in 2020 also had episodes released in May 2023. There is also Mignon that also became well-known as an ONA only series which commenced in August. As with the Hyperventilation episodes from 2017 which were made by the same artist, these are anime exclusive series both of which became well known. The No Love Zone manhwa from 2019 would be adapted in December this year.

There would be manhua that were also adapted, such as the episodes for the continuing Beryl and Sapphire/Xiao Lu He Xiao Lan which commenced in 2016, specifically the Beryl and Sapphire 2nd Season in July this year. The Tian Guan Cifu Er/Heaven Official's Blessing Season 2 episodes started their release in October 2023.

While all Yaoi related releases are notable, some would become more well known than others. Tamaranai no wa Koi nano ka/A Love Too Captivating is one such series, from its beginning here in July of this year the story would continue with multiple volumes. Also known as Is It Because of Love That I Can't Resist? the series would reach further prominence two years later in 2025 when an anime special was released.

The Payday webtoon began this year in September. This adapts the Payday novel which founded the series in 2012. The series also had drama CDs released in 2016. Payday may have been more well-known as it is the sequel story to Mayday Mayday Mayday which began in 2010. The Backlight series was a drama release in November that would be popular.

When Turning was released as a novel in 2019 it would become even more well known with the release of its manhwa which was in June 2023. It is similar for the action thriller series Codename: Anastasia that was released in 2012, the novel would be adapted into a webtoon in April of this year.

A notable manhua series is Xiao Mogu of which the 2019 novel was adapted in August this year.

There were a number of especially notable manhwa that commenced this yes, the slice of life series Our Sunny Days began in August.

Where the The Guild Member Next Door novel began in 2021 there would be its manhwa adaption released in June of this year under the name of Virtual Strangers. Both titles cover the online MMORPG theme of the series, and the characters themselves in a series that has become especially popular.

As with every year there were sequel stories to previously released ones. A well known one is Pink Heart Jam: Beat which continues the Pink Heart Jam story that commenced in 2019.

There were a number of manga sequel stories released in 2023. From Ameagari no Bokura ni Tsuite commencing in 2019, that had a sequel story Ameagari no Bokura ni Tsuite: Sono Saki in 2021. Also two years later there was Ameagari no Bokura ni Tsuite: Ever After in September of this year. When Mitsubachi to Lemon Balm/Honeybee & Lemon Balm was released in 2021 there would be Mitsubachi to Lemon Balm: Sweet Moment/Honeybee & Lemonbalm: Sweet Moment in 2025. With Kiss wa Sousa no Ato de/Love is Too Far Away, Kissing is Too Close released in November this year there would be the sequel Kiss wa Sousa no Ato de Again in 2025. The shounen-ai childcare series Bokura no Shokutaku/Our Dining Table began in 2015 and would have the sequel Bokura no Shokutaku: Okawari/Our Dining Table: Seconds, Please! in March this year. After Imitation Play was released in 2021 there would be Imitation Play 2: Dawn in December this year.

The Katsubou Voice series that began in 2021 would have the sequel Junai Voice in April 2023. Both these stories continue a series that began with Ijiwaru Voice in 2012 which would have a release almost every year from then.

When the Justice Arcade manhwa began in August this year, in 2024 there would be Justice Dojo as a sequel.

For webtoon sequels, Work Love Balance in Feburary this year was released after On or Off in 2019.

Spin-off stories were also released across years. The Koboreru Ambivalence is a spin-off from Sankaku Twilight in 2022. The Mujihi na Yoru ni/Ruthless Nights manga continues the storyline from Mujihi na Otoko which began in 2009, of which that was a spin-off story from Warui Koto Shitai in 2004. When Hinekure Sakura ni Koi ga Saku/He's Mean Because He Likes You was released in 2017 it would have a spin-off Tameiki no Haru ni Koi no Natsu/A Sigh in Spring, a Love in Summer available in 2020. That story in turn would have a spin-off, Yurameku Aki no Koigokoro in July this year.

For adaptions, the Card Shark novel that began in 2016 would have a manhwa released in December this year. The Concealing Sacred Simplicity manhwa would adapt the novel from 2017. The Secretary Gwanggong's Survival Diary novel began in 2022 to have a manhwa adaption a year later in November. The novel known as I’m the Villain’s Constellation but I’m Broke which began release in 2020 would be adapted into the I'm the Villain's Constellation with Empty Pockets webtoon this year in November. When Thanatos was released as a novel in 2020 it would have a manhwa adaption this year in November. The Past Friendship/The Relationship Between Us Now novel released in 2021 would have manhwa commence in October this year. The Antidote novel released in 2017 would have manhwa released September 2023. When the Zero Day Attack novel began in 2021 the manhwa adaption would be released in August this year. The Perle novel that was released in 2018 would be adapted into a webtoon this year in August. There was the Summer Sparks novel in 2018 that was adapted into manhwa in August 2023. The Conditions of a Guide novel from 2019 was titled as 151.20% for the July manhwa adaption of this year. The Gentle Forest novel from 2020 would be adapted into a webtoon in June 2023. When The Alpha Agenda began as a novel in 2022 it would be a year later in June that the manwha would become available. The fantasy action Surviving as a Player novel began in 2020 and was adapted into a webtoon in May this year. There were historical past life themes explored in the Traces of Blank Space novel from 2019, and while the adaption in April of this year remained the same, the webtoon title was Fragments of Us. The esper themes in the Civilian A novel from 2021 would reach wider audiences with the April webtoon adaption this year. When The Fallen Duke & the Knight Who Hated Him began as a novel in 2020 there would be a webtoon available in March this year. The romance novel Love on Hold from 2018 was adapted into a webtoon in March 2023. When Oh, Captain! My Captain! began as a novel in 2015 it was adapted into a webtoon in November this year. There was the Into The Rose Garden novel released in 2016 to have a webtoon in January this year.
