This article lists the Bara, Shounen-ai and Yaoi materials that were released in 2021. The Japanese manga, Korean manhwa, Chinese manhua, to anime seasons, movies, then novels and games including visual novels are listed by the month the first entry was released.
2021 Series[]
Remarkably for anime there were a number of notable adaptions released. The second movie entry Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai: Don't Stay Gold for this series was released in March. An ONA with four episodes at four minutes each allowed the Semantic Error manhwa to showcase anime for the series also in March. For manga adaptions there was the nine episodes at six minutes each ONA Reincarnated into Demon King Evelogia's World which began in October. Also in October was the The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window anime which adapted the manga from 2013. Previous anime seasons could continue in the twelve episodes at twenty four minutes each that made up season 3 of Mo Dao Zu Shi, namely Mo Dao Zu Shi: Wanjie Pian in August. The Dakaretai Otoko 1-i ni Odosarete Imasu. Movie: Spain-hen movie continues from the anime season which began in 2018, which in turn adapts the 2014 manga. The Lie Huo Jiao Chou ONA released in October adapts the novel from 2019. Dinghai Fusheng Lu had anime released in July.
A rather unique anime entry released in February was the 6 Lovers OVA. At twenty two minutes in duration it was one episode involving separate storylines from six different series. Renai Ruby no Tadashii Furikata would have around three minutes of anime after its manga release in March 2014. Similarly Kuroneko Kareshi no Aishikata, which has prequel and sequel stories would have that particular manga from Septemeber 2023 adapted into anime. Where Ze commenced far back in March 2004, animation concerning two of the characters from there would be featured in anime as part of the 6 Lovers OVA. For Ten Count, that manga began in 2013, to have anime as part of 6 Lovers, where its own stand alone anime movie is scheduled to be released in 2023. The Ameiro Paradox section animates manga from December 2009. The Hey, Class President! manga began on September 2005 and was one of the early yaoi series to have anime OVAs available with two released starting on November 2009. The series would receive animation again over a decade later where the characters were featured in the 6 Lovers OVA. From the years of release, to anime available, being a sequel, or stories focusing on main characters from a series, neither publishers, the series chosen for this project had nothing in common. All that united them for this formation of an OVA was that they involved established relationships of which more than one manga series could be shared in an anime format.
Series can start in one format, such as a manga, and have the story depicted in another format like an anime with any length of time in between. For manga adaptions that were released, BL Game no Shujinkou no Otouto de Aru Koto ni Kigatsukimashita was released in April of this year, which adapts the novel from 2016. Sequels are often seen in manga, the Takane no Hana wa, Midasaretai series starting in June is a sequel to Takane no Hana wa, Chirasaretai from October 2018. A long in terms of the number of chapters manga is Bokura ga Koisuru 5 Byou Mae ~Ubu Koi BL Anthology~ which is an anthology containing twenty nine stories of love forming across various settings.
Notable manhwa that commenced this year were Shutline, along with Mad Place. The Payback manhwa has also become notable, where that adapts the novel from 2010. A number of drama CDs for Payback were also released throughout 2021. The psychological horror Blind Play began in February of this year, as was The Pawn's Revenge in the same month. The Breathe the Same Air manhwa began this year which adapts the novel. Similarly Juanmuqi also adapts a novel from 2017. Where Kill the Lights became well known, that adapts the novel from 2012. This year saw the Salvation manhwa released that adapts the novel released in 2019. It is similar for Secrets of Enthusiastic Omega K which also adapts its novel from 2019. The Thundercloud Rainstorm manhwa adapts its novel from 2018. From its start in March, Full Volume has become especially popular. My Bias Appeared?! was released this year. Another notable entry originating from 2021 is The Origin of Species. The same for Under the Green Light released in March. The supernatural comedy It's Just a Dream... Right?! commenced in February.
The Saye manhua would begin in March of this year. This adapts the novel from 2016, where furthermore there would be the donghua anime Nuan Yang (Warm Sun) announced for future release.

Where anime can be released and concluded within a year, then with drama CDs, books, and games often being a single release on a set date, print material chapters are released over time. Accordingly a manga series for instance can be released in one year to be finished in a later one. A series can have a different commencing year for a print release, but share a year of release, 2021 in this case.
