The Warrior and the Deity is a completed manhwa written and illustrated by Potion and published by Bomtoon.

Synopsis[]

Orr was cursed after drawing a legendary sword from the ground which made him lose all emotions. On his way to defeat the Demon King, he had to stay at a village to resolve the cases many people simply vanishing. In that place, he met Mayim, a mountain deity who seemed to be connected to the abductions?

As a young boy he was the only one able to take the sword out of the rock however there was a curse imbued so he would not be able to feel emotions again. Practically he can barely understand that the demon king is a bad person. Orr is unable to comprehend why villagers would cower and bend just because what is happening to other people. Burdened but untroubled by the mission to kill the demon king as the warrior Orr heads out to fulfil this destiny. His loss of emotions does not stop him from assisting villages that he comes across. He is attentive to his surroundings with subordinates of the Demon King around. Orr notes one village as quite disorderly and seeks out what is behind a suspicious energy that he can feel outside. Finding Mayim he draws his sword to have him release the villagers that have gone missing. Hearing that he can take the villagers place Orr elects to cut himself across his face to dissuade Mayim from taking him. He does not feel physical pain. Spending time with him Orr initially observes Mayim over three days without sleeping as he works on figuring out where the villagers are. His lack of emotions has him show zero interest in the change of clothes he receives but he is not discouraged from taking actions. With Mayim needing him for vitality Orr decides to give him as much as he needs.

A mountain deity who was taking humans for energy. Found by Orr he judges him a fearless human for wanting to stop what were seen as kidnappings. Saying that it is not a problem if Orr were to kill him Mayim adds that it is because of him that is why the Demon King has not been able to lay a hand on the villagers nearby where he has in fact been protecting them. Mayim further warns that with his death Orr would be marked as an enemy by other gods. With Orr cutting his own face Mayim puts him to sleep to prevent him doing anything else drastic. Through some means he has some awareness of Orr's background and knew right away that Orr was cursed. Mayim puts in a lot of energy to try and mitigate the effects of Orr's curse by spending time with animals but finds the magical exertion tiring. Suggesting that they entwine since that is a more efficient way for Mayim to get energy he asks for Orr's consent first and stays where Orr can see him to gain his trust when it is declined. Mayim can conjure clothing over Orr and fades should he use too much energy but he can be born again when he needs to. For a deity detached from human affairs and someone who took them to use their vitality Mayim shows an unusual amount of patience and care in wanting Orr to emotionally open up and help him with the curse he is afflicted with.

Orr's mother explains that because of this pitiful situation that Orr calls fate, a lot of people have been living in fear for a long time now and their only salvation lies in the sword Orr wields.

The Warrior[]

A man brimming with grief and rage who used all his strength and succeeded in striking down the Demon King. He was pragmatic in searching for a successor would be murdered in turn by the Demon King's son at a gathering to find one.

The Demon King[]

In possession of a sizeable castle he used his powers for evil purposes. He is depicted as having horns and may have literally been a demon.

Story Introduction[]

A long time ago, people lived in fear due to the endless wicked acts of the Demon King in the North. One day a warrior defeated the Demon King to bring peace to the Northern Continent. He spread the word that he was looking for a strong successor. The Demon King had a son who appeared from the crowd and struck down the warrior. Since then the warrior's sword was sealed in the ground with no one able to pull it out, until Orr does.

Having aged to an adult, many months have passed since Orr was forced to venture out after his coming-of-age-ceremony and he travels to the Northern castle. He has been helping villages along the way and in one the residents have been vanishing one by one into the night. Orr feels rather than evil it is a sacred energy he can sense. Mayim is the source of it and asks Orr if as a warrior he would want to kill him. If he did more villagers would be in danger since Mayim is the one protecting them from the Demon King. Mayim's idea is for Orr to take the villager's place in providing him the vitality he needs.[1]
