Characters[]

Tae-jun[]

Tae-jun - The Black Mirror

With no idea it was this hard to rent a studio he feels it is fine since once this is over he and his friends will be college students. Telling them that there is to be no smoking or drinking at his place Tae-jun is happy to have a lot of friends. Having had enough romantic relationships Tae-jun has always felt that he lacked something and describes it as an unnatural feeling like he has lost a certain part of himself. There are three scars on the palm of his left hand that he does not remember getting and cannot recall his childhood. He has an unexplainable fear of the dark and mentions strange hallucinations that appear to be both visual and auditory. Whilst he is unsure of who Yeon-woo is Tae-jun thinks how he is too handsome. He is eager for Yeon-woo to tell him everything about his past and with that asks whether he has a spare room. Noting that Yeon-woo is still in a bad mood Tae-jun then wonders what he is writing and whether Yeon-woo is a writer by profession. His curiosity regarding noises on the other side of a door are abated when he puts it down to sounds a house makes in general. He considers Yeon-woo unexpectedly kind for saying that he can share his bed. Tae-jun was the top student in his entrance exam for the 67th class of the police administration. He is also accomplished at karate and lived with his karate teacher for more than ten years.

Yeon-woo Jeong[]

Yeon-woo - The Black Mirror

At his home he notices and recognizes Tae-jun down below. Yeon-woo runs down and crashes through boxes on his porch to hug him before adding that he has missed him so much. He thought maybe Tae-jun had been waiting for him and explains he had just moved here and had not even unpacked yet. Yeon-woo states that they were inseparable when they were five and he displays a similar symmetrical scar on his hand to the one Tae-jun has. He tells Tae-jun to just go when he cannot remember his childhood and appears angered. Whilst Yeon-wo agrees to Tae-jun staying with him he instructs him to move quietly and that he is disturbing his work. With Tae-jun's friends attempting to be quiet he says it is okay for them to make noises and if they were too quiet he would feel uneasy and suspect that they are stealing something. When Yeon-woo is reading at night and Tae-jun enters his room requesting blankets he does not have any spare so says they can sleep together on his bed. Yeon-woo says that Tae-jun used to visit the house he is in now as a child and that Tae-jun used to live at the orphanage two blocks away.

Tae-jun's Friends[]

Tae-jun has two friends who attend college with him. They are happy to head over to Se-yeon and help Tae-jun with moving boxes into Yeon-woo's place.

Se-yeon[]

A girl who calls Tae-jun to come over to hers with his friends. She later hears that he will be there later after Tae-jun comes across Yeon-woo again.

Story Introduction[]

As a child Tae-jun is deeply affected at seeing blood in a room. Presently he is searching for an apartment with his friends for college before leaving it for the day after Se-yeon calls. He follows a hallucinatory dismembered hand to a housing area where Yeon-woo Jeong recognizes him. Yeon-woo knew that Tae-jun still has the hand scar from that day as well. Although he departs from the conversation since Tae-jun is unable to remember his past Yeon-woo is asked whether he has a spare room.[1] Tae-jun is moving boxes in where he is only to pay the maintenance fee with no deposit or rent. With tapping heard he asks Yeon-woo what the room opposite his is, the one with the black door. Although it is fine for Tae-jun to enter the room he thinks nothing more of it. At night Yeon-woo says that he and Tae-jun can sleep together and that they done this often when they were young. There he states that Tae-jun used to climb the tree outside and enter this room through the window but decides to sleep rather than elaborate further.[2] Tae-jun awakens to see the door slightly ajar, widen, and then gently close.[3]
