Moonlight is an ongoing manhwa with chapters across one season. It is written by Kie and illustrated by Seonagi. First released in 2024, it has been published by Lezhin Comics Webtoon. There is a novel depiction of the story as well.
Synopsis[]
Ruth Kaisel grew up being looked down upon since childhood because his mother was from a red-light district. He joined the Imperial Knights to run away from those who did not recognize him as a member of his father's family but eventually became the leader of the knights at a young age due to the power of that same family, despite not being able to free himself from his father's family no matter where he ran. He found himself serving the royal family as the escort of Crown Prince Ail, who was beautiful and elegant with dazzling red hair but was extremely eccentric and selfish.
After some time of being overwhelmed by the young prince, Ail urges Ruth to become his 'true shield' in the castle and fight a silent but deadly battle within the palace walls. Due to threats from those close to him, Ruth begins to play the role of a terminally ill lover, while following orders. Fake lovers who started with the purpose of using each other, but ending up in a complicated relationship. Will the only thing left be the pain in their hearts or will they finally feel the joy of freedom?

Also not after others delving, Ruth finds Kamiel's best attribute is that he does not dig deeply into things. They had entered the academy together and been been close friends since. Having been positioned at the outer wall for the last five years he has never seen Ail. Now that he is 21[1] he has been promoted to a commander.

The only son of the Emperor, who according to rumors has had an eccentric attitude since birth, in the sense of being too cold for someone his age. In the middle of practicing sword combat, Ail's attention is brought to the new commander and is curious about the change. Although expressing doubts about Ruth's capabilities, he does take Kamiel's word of what he is able to do.

Ali's friend, who speaks favorably that despite his youth he shows intelligence and maturity beyond his years. Also alert to Ruth he mentions how he has been looking quite pensive since they arrived so questions whether he is concerned. Certain that Ruth would do very well, Kamiel is confidant Ruth will do fine as he always does. Presenting Ruth to Ail he describes him as the most reliable person he has come across. He is known to the same age as Ruth (22)[2]

Story[]
Ruth is informed by Kamiel his Highness is not a difficult person to understand. After a description of Ail who they are heading to meet, Kamiel feels Ruth should not have any issues meeting him even with him strictly following his schedule. It is contemplated how the Imperial Knights are the guardians of the palace of an empire. Due to their status, the knights are expected to be the personification of perfection in both their skills and appearance. The selected candidates are evaluated on their physical and mental constitution then subjected to meticulous training. The most able among them are chosen to serve as escorts of the imperial family.
Called to, Ruth's focus is brought back to Kamiel speaking where he denies being concerned. As Ruth thinks of what he has heard about Ail, he arrives before a set of doors. Entering, Ruth is struck at the sight of Ail sparring. When Ail is informed of his arrival, Ruth shares his name and new role to his highness. Where Ail feels Ruth's face is better suited to a harem, Ruth feels his personality is accurate to the rumors he has heard.
As Kamiel verbally comes to his assistance by speaking of Ruth's expertise, he states Ail will quickly understand why he has been promoted to commander. Accepting what Kamiel says, Ail states for Ruth to follow him.[3]
