List of Manhwa

This article is the master list of manhwa, which are works originating from Korea. As well as yaoi manhwa, there can be bara, and shounen-ai for varied interactions between characters. Consisting largely of images, manwha is read verticanally starting at the top and moving downwards, of which the story is also relayed via the text in speech bubbles. Heavily in color, manhwa strips are exceptionally vibrant at all levels. The number of yaoi manhwa has increased dramatically in recent years, where in parts they are overwhelmingly more popular than other formats.

The list is in an alphabetical order beginning with A and descending to conclude with titles that begin with numbers. Additionally, the manhwa category may be viewed. There is also the year of release sections that display the number of manhwa available amongst other formats.

Foundations[]

With the number of series becoming available, manhwa is becoming more visible than Japanese manga which has released the greatest number of yaoi stories since its inception. It maintains its lead over another nascent format, namely Chinese manhua. That webtoons are available online also benefits manhwa as it can also be digitally released. Collectively, manhwa plays an outsized role in sharing yaoi series.

Where it is going well for manhwa series, the focus on them may be why series within them are not expanded into other formats as much. It is not uncommon for manga stories to be adapted into drama CDs, however there are not as many adaptions for manhwa. Although currently a large number are not released, they are still made where the On or Off story was adapted into multiple drama CDs.

It is a similar matter concerning games, of which currently there are few based on manhwa. For yaoi manhwa being adapted into anime, there are progressions in that area. Released as four episodes with four minutes per episode, Semantic Error became an ONA anime in 2021. Novels are also adapted into manhwa and vice versa. The novel of Love History Caused by Willful Negligence has been adapted into a manhwa with chapters across more than one season.

Stories are told in chapters that take place across seasons. Generally, the pages within chapters and the number of them fall in between manga and manhua. With twenty eight chapters in one season, Base to Base is complete. Having seventy seven chapters, Love on My Terms has a high number of chapters for a manhwa.

Genres[]

Yaoi related classifications such as shounen-ai may indicate how a character relationship may develop should one be explored. It is the genres such as comedy, mystery, and slice of life among others that manhwa series would cover.

Types of Manhwa[]

Since they originated in Korea, manhwa can be used interchangeably with webtoon where they are online releases. For classification purposes, the term manhwa is used to indicate that a story is from Korea, published physically in a book format or digitally online. Webtoon would be used to cover a solely online release from any country.

Unlike manga where text is read right to left, manhwa is read in the same direction as English, left to right. Since Korean is usually read horizontally, that is also a layout for text areas particularly when viewed on a phone. With manhwa being released at a time where phones and such devices are used for accessing materials, the structure was tailored to that accordingly. Online publishing sites releasing manhwa specifically, along with the format for manhwa would have factored into it attaining a global reach.
