Kyou kara Maou! is a series that encompasses light novels, anime, drama CDs and games. The Kyou kara Ma no Tsuku Jiyuugyou! manga is also a part of the series.
Synopsis[]
Yuuri is transported to the demon world, Shin Makoku, proclaimed king, and learns that he has proposed to Wolfram after slapping for insulting his mother. Navigating the challenges that arise in the running of a kingdom with tensions between humans and demons, Yuuri also discovers more about his magic based abilities and the connections between those around him.
Characters[]
Yuuri Shibuya[]
At school he preferred playing baseball to textbook subjects, and enjoys historical dramas. Yuuri was a regular student, until his intervention to help someone being picked on resulted in his transportation to the demon realm, and proclaimed the twenty seventh King of the Demons. His willingness to help others is applied here as well, Yuuri works to foster a world where demons and humans can live together peacefully, and view one another fairly. Yuuri can be emotional, and it is usually anger and sadness that cause him to loose control and activate his powers. He has some degree of proficiency over lesser extreme yet still powerful magics especially those related to water.
Conrad Weller[]
The captain of the Demon Kingdom's army, Conrad locates Yuuri when he first arrives in the Demon Kingdom and becomes his personal bodyguard. He is the second son of the previous Demon Queen, Cecilie von Spitzweig. His father, Dunheely Weller, was a human so Conrad being half demon is unable to use magic. During the war against humans, Conrad was in the Lütenburg platoon where all members where half bloods, along with Yozak Gurrier. He fought on behalf of the demons to demonstrate his loyalty to the Demon Kingdom. Conrad was close to Susannah Julia before her passing, and being placed in charge of her soul that was going to become the new Demon King is what caused Conrad to travel to Japan for when Yuuri was to be born.
Wolfram von Bielefeld[]
Short-tempered overall, and upset that Yuuri as a half blood demon is supposed to be king, Wolfram's demon pride results in him initially disliking humans including Conrad who he would not admit was his half brother. Such views change with time and Wolfram would regard humans more favourably. Direct both in speaking and combat, Wolfram is both an accomplished sword fighter and capable with fire magic, but he does suffer sea sickness. Wolfram is serious when painting, and regarding his engagement to Yuuri. He comes to trust him and is willing to put Yuuri's best interests before his own.
Gwendal von Voltaire[]
The current lord of Voltaire and commander of the Demon Army, Gwendal is a skilled tactician and can wield earth magic. Stoic, he essentially runs the kingdom for Yuuri and is also pragmatic except when matters concern Anissina von Karbelnikoff, his childhood friend. He can show he cares about his brothers, Conrad and Wolfram, and also demonstrates care towards Yuuri when they were travelling through a desert together. Knitting is one of his hobbies and Gwendal can also bake.
Günter von Christ[]
Acting as Yuuri's advisor, Günter is generally whimsical but it does not stop him being a capable teacher, magic user and swordsman. His reactions to sudden and drastic changes are varied, he was stunned to find himself as a flying Okiku Doll that could shoot laser beams out his eyes. However he fully embraced his model status on earth despite the unfamiliarity, then Günter had a rare angered side when Yuuri's trust was abused.
Ken Murata[]
A student who was in Yuuri's class for two years, and whilst unassuming, Ken is actually of the background of the demon realm and Yuuri's place within it. He is close to Yuuri and maintains a cheerful disposition.
