Background[]

Junior with his family - A Lucky Coin

Settled into being belittled by family

Mistreated by his mother and granny, Junior simply accepts their claims that he does not stick up for himself, and that he is wasting his time with studies. Living with his gran, Junior acquires items for her from stores. In thinking of her general demenour, Junior does not appear to like her comments such as how he does not stick up for himself, yet he is defended by her. Coming across the scene of his granny taking her clothes off in public, Junior reacts by hiding around a corner where he does not want to be seen. While his mother wants him to go to college, Junior feels there is no way he can do well enough on his tests. In sharing details on his parents, Junior does not understand their lack of finance but thinks maybe his mom wants to buy a house. When Junior goes to live with grandpa and grandma (his dad's parents), he always considered their house a safe haven.

Having known Ben for years, Junior thought he had went to jail. Although Junior thinks how his dad is the only one at home who will be nice to him, and does not hit or scold him, Junior notes how he never remembers his birthday, how old he is, what grade he is in, or what clothes size he has.

Asked when his stutter began, it was further back that he can remember. Recalling his dad said he started speaking late and was always slow, Junior continues that his granny would see he was anxious and scold him, which made it worse. In speaking slower, pronouncing each syllable, Junior can talk uninterrupted.

Having secretly received a new phone from his aunt, Penny, he feels Hank's posts in English are advanced. There is still a year and a half until he graduates school. Enjoying pizza, when butter is being added to barbeque food, Junior speaks how it smells good. Joining Hank at the restaurant he works at, Junior thinks it is his first time at a Western restaurant.

In exchanging numbers, Junior types 1, 2, 3, and so on under the impression he now has Hank's number. Sparkling, Junior asks is he not cool. Told he can use Hank's credit card, Junior shakes his head vigorously while answering he cannot do that to him. Wearing Hank's clothes, Junior begins sniffing them before announcing that it smells nice. When trying to get ice cubes out, Junior hammers them against the bowl. Questioned if he is trying to break it, Junior replies he knows what he is doing. Thinking how Hank is not eating the instant beef stew even though it is delicious, in his view, Junior considers he is only eating a bit because he is here.

Awaiting a message

In asking whether Hank would come to his school everyday, Junior seemingly gets his answer from Hank's facial expression. Noting how everyone on the livestream is commenting on how beautiful Hank's hands are, Junior pays close attention to him preparing vegetables and how that looks really cool too. When Hank rolls up his jogging bottoms so it cannot be seen that they are too short, Junior thanks him while blushing.

Described as observant and blunt, asked why he is being bullied, Junior guesses it is because they cannot stand him because he stutters. Noting how Hank does not say anything when he starts or ends a stream, Junior thinks no wonder no one watches him. Shocked when first seeing Hank fight, Junior was awed by his confidence and how he did not give a damn, then thinks he could not ever manage that kind of attitude. Not necessarily needing Hank's protection, Junior likes being close to him and affirms he envies Hank's freedom.

Answering it is no problem for him to buy iced tea since he had enough cash, when Hank jokes what a big spender, Junior replies the biggest. Witnessing a coin based magic trick, Junior questions Hank is he supposed to ask where it went. Announcing he is amazed, no joking, when the coin is revealed on his chest, Junior then raises if Hank tried that with a girl would he not get slapped. Junior is virtually in hysterics at being told it is a magic coin. After declaring that he is a nice guy, where Hank replies he knows, Junior laughs he is a narcissist. When Hank comments on the monster seaweed and how he can tell a kid bought it, Junior retorts one can tell it is bought for a kid. With his short height commented on, Junior states he plans to shoot up to six feet in the next six months. Intuitive, Junior raises how Hank will not be staying here long. Perturbed that they may have to part, Junior thinks he gets him then loses Hank, then gets him and then worries about losing him without knowing when it will happen. Junior finds this worse than not having gotten him at all. Joked that he is illiterate, Junior responds he is in middle school while Hank only graduated elementary school. Seeing that Hank appears so happy, Junior wonders why he is in a bad mood. While Hank jokes about them holding hands while crossing the street, Junior asks concernedly whether he is afraid.

No longer enduring bullies but dealing with them

Silent and inactive when bullied, Junior endures the torment. Still not showing his anger, Junior moves to headbutt a man after being attacked, when also with Hank's name having been asked about on his phone. When Ben attempts to punch Hank after he and Joshua have come to his aid, Junior grasps him from behind to bring him to the ground. Outright punching Ben after his dad is called a murderer, Junior uses what Joshua taught him to block and kick further threats. Before that moment, Junior never thought he had a talent for fighting. Later, when he is unable to stop himself being struck in the stomach with a mop, it hits a bruise Junior has sustained. Acquiring and breaking the mop, Junior strikes Ben in the forehead drawing blood. Pointing the spiked end at Ben's face, Junior says the next time he sees him to walk the other way.

Aspirations[]

Not wanting to go to school, Junior would like to go somewhere else to work and travel and he speaks these desires into a hole within a tree. Speaking to his tree hole when concerned, Junior wishes he had super powers where he is afraid grandpa and grandma will not last long. Wanting to find his dad who has gone missing, Junior needs to ask why.

Wading through a river to find a pen

Needing to buy a book, Junior acquires the first notebook he touches. Presenting a dollar bill, Junior announces for him and Hank to get noodles. Questioned where he is going to find dollar noodles, Junior points to an area serving them. Thanking Hank but saying he does not need to come to his school anymore, Junior bids him goodbye for the day. Wading through the stream, Junior realizes he is being spoken to, and mentions how he was looking for his pen. When Hank finds it, Junior makes no comment on the idea he is to give it to a girl. Questioned if he was planning to give it to Hank, shaking his head, Junior replies not anymore. After a pause, Junior presents the pen to Hank.

Asked by Hank if he can show his face on his livestream since these girls keep bugging him, Junior replies sure. Suddenly remembering he needs to buy oil at the market, Junior carries that while noting finally someone accepted his present for the first time, then thinks how even his mom would not accept the scarf he gave her. Considering how Hank does not seem to hate the pen, Junior feels he is a good guy. Joining Hank in the supermarket, where he is startled and Junior is asked what is he doing sneaking up behind him like that, he answers taking a walk. Silently following him and pulling Hank's basket, when questioned if he has eaten yet, Junior replies he will just have some oil in a bit.

Junior shown to the stream - A Lucky Coin

Fine with being shown on Hank's stream

Where streamers comment on him, Junior asks if Hank wants his face. Addressing if Hank wants gifts, Junior gets his message across. Affirming he is not trying to repay him, Junior says he feels bad since Hank does not get gifts, and is fine volunteering his presence if that is what streamers respond to.

Processing that Hank got fired from his job for punching Jerry in defence of him, when being hassled again, Junior is taking deep breathes. He does not remember the last time he had this feeling, and Junior has the urge to throw something at Jerry's head. Panicking at his lucky coin received from Hank having gone missing, Junior asks his mother on its whereabouts to hear she spent it on soy sauce. Running to where it was spent, Junior reacquires it by exchanging a note. Reminding himself it is a lucky coin, Junior appears fulfilled to have regained it.

While he feels Jerry has been dealt with, where Ben is in the area, Junior messages Hank. Peeking from behind a tree, Junior wonders if it is the HYDE restaurant that he has made his way to. Getting the idea from someone else, Junior discreetly tries to take a photo of Hank.

Feeding Hank pizza

While initially thinking he is not college material, Junior does elect to continue studying when the topic is raised with Hank yet was not sure of what he wanted to study. Accepting Hank's offer to practice fighting, Junior says he will come tomorrow. Taken to a boxing gym by Joshua, he is taught how to punch where later Junior will learn how to block and kick too. Ignoring Jerry shouting at him, Junior heads to Hank's during his lunch break since he wants to go to his cooking livestream. Getting a call to go by the market and pick up the clothes for his granny, Junior hears what good is studying going to do with his lousy grades. Called useless like his father, Junior acquires and delivers the clothes as requested, but rather than listen to further harshness he heads over to Hank, and ends up feeding him pizza.

Asking whether Hank is jogging today, Junior says he will come and get him, maybe around 10 after he has finished his homework. Jogging is an activity Junior is committed to taking part in. He is pleased with the idea of spending time with Hank in getting groceries when they are planning set days to do that. Where he suggested it, Junior heads to a concert with Hank and Joshua. Where this took place right after he was hit by Ben and his cronies, before being defended by Hank and Joshua, he does not dwell on the bad that happened at all, rather enjoys the concert.
