Touru Agake[]

Touru - Family Affair

Raising his hand to interject, Touru trembles while asking how many times do they have to have this conversation. Saying for the family members gathered round to do this after his exams, Touru despondently thinks the only thing that is important is the fortune that comes with him. Having failed his entrance exams once, Touru feels there is no reason for him to even attend prep school. Sharing with Tsukitani that he lost his parents when he was little, since then he has been living with his grandfather. Feeling better, Touru mentions for Tsukitani to be this kind, if it were him, he would not mind living together. Surprised to see Tsukitani at the meeting, told to choose, Touru points at him. Remembering his grandfather's words, Touru feels he meant to say he wanted to leave him with a family. With Tsukitani however, Touru feels he may have made the wrong choice. After a dream involving his father and mother, Touru wakes in Tsukitani's house and remembers he chose him as his guardian. Aggravated at Tsukitani, and wondering if he is the same person, Touru means to earn money for himself in response to his rude behavior. Since his grandfather has been taking care of him, Touru has not accepted any of the allowance. Studying at the prep school, and working part time in a cafe like environment, Touru is satisfied he has been living that sort of perfect life. Considering those god old days, Touru feels it cannot be helped and he will take some money from his savings with no other choice. Replying to Tsukitani that he does not know his way to a clothes store, Touru adds he could at least show him around since they will be living together. Told to eat alone, Touru remembers himself happy as a child eating with his parents. Holding Tsukitani's jumper, Touru says he does not want to, since it is lonely eating alone. As his grandfather has been in the hospital, Touru has been eating by himself. With little other option given the circumstances, Touru is reduced to saying that he is going along with Tsukitani's whole "Agake-hate" thing. Having played baseball as a child, Touru asked his grandfather's bodyguards to play catch with him. Presently commanded to hurry up and eat or he would be left, Touru orders some smooth apricot tofu. Presenting it to Tsukitani since he might be irritated with all the questions, despite the treatment, Touru got it for him to feel better. While Tsukitani says he will have breakfast with him, before promptly walking off, Touru is happy and sees it as a breakthrough. With what he has experienced, Touru feels it is like they are a family.

Tsukitani Touji[]

Tsukitani - Family Affair

A lecturer at a prep school, while he says Tooru is not doing so well today, that is a softer appraisal compared to when other students answer questions incorrectly. Finding Touru after class, Tsukitani states his head is up in the clouds then asks what is up with him. Questioning if there is some reason, hearing the details, Tsukitani mentions it is the same whoever Touru chooses. Potential guardians he has to choose from are just ties until Touru is an adult, and there is barely a year left until then. Stating that adults do not have as much power over Touru as he thinks they do, Tsukitani advises him to not think too hard on it. Mentioning Saturday night, Tsukitani guides Touru to organize that family meeting of his then. Joining them, Tsukitani introduces himself as Touru's youngest uncle, Touji. It does not matter whether others accept it, Tsukitani affirms he has every right to participate. Himself chosen, Tsukitani instructs Touru to wait at the gate and he will bring his car over. The abrupt hurry is not a show for relatives, it comes from Tsukitani's genuine feelings. Insistent that Touru not bring anything, Tsukitani begins smelling his clothes before removing them. Waking up and remembering Touru came over to his place where he had him sleep on the floor, Tsukitani thought he was a chick. Things that smell like Agake, things Touru buys with Agake's money, anything to do with him had better not be brought in here. Loathing Agake, he questions whether Touru wants to stop living with him when he thinks to act for himself. Alleviating that with saying he will buy Touru new clothes, Tsukitani would feel bad if he made him use the allowance from Agake. Despite that, Tsukitani accuses Touru of being weird after saying he studies and works part time to pay for his own way. Providing clarification, Tsukitani reveals that in buying for him, it is more of an investment on his part. Speaking how he will make Touru repay him double later, Tsukitani adds in the end he will have access to the fortune through him. The stroppy and woefully inconsiderate attitude progresses as Tsukitani raises whether Touru could not have gone out to buy clothes on his own. Apparently not even considering that change it must be for Touru to switch houses, where it involves living with someone difficult like him, similarly, Tsukitani has zero regard for Touru's wellbeing. When Touru is hungry, Tsukitani does not acknowledge that, rather decides to announce that he himself is not eating, before instantly saying see ya to him. At least honest, Tsukitani declares he has class at 4, so is heading in early to laze around. Seeing nothing amiss with leaving Touru alone in a new location, Tsukitani suggests why does he not go whatever he wants. Unlikely said to afford him freedom, Tsukitani more than likely regards Touru as a bother, it would be in keeping with his appalling treatment of him. Often after saying something nice, it would be followed up with either a jibe or being clear it is not for Touru's benefit.

Aya[]

A family member attending the meeting to decide who would be Touru's guardian. Speaking how they have a kid similar in age to Touru, she says he will fit right in. Attending a meeting called, Aya finds Touru has chosen Tsukitani yet has little reaction to the surprise.

Touru's Uncle[]

After Aya speaks, evidently aware of her home, he comments his place is bigger and quieter, so perfect for a student. When another male relative speaks, he shouts he cannot even consider him as their sibling. Protesting Touji's presence at the meeting, his efforts do not prevent Touru choosing him. At the hospital where his father is being kept, he asks Touru whether everything is going well with Touji and is worried about him. Speaking how Touji is messed up in the head, he also reveals they are not related by blood as Touji is adopted. Stating that Touru would understand Touji's true nature soon enough, he says with a some accuracy that he is a criminal. If Touru wants to run, he states it is now or never. Should he want to move to his place, he will welcome him. An uncle referred to as Takashi is mentioned which may be his name.

Male Relative[]

As others weight up the pros of Touru living with them, he states it is unfair unless they all decide together. Asking why Touru called them over himself today, he is speechless when Touru selects Tsukitani. One of Touru's relatives is named Masaru.

Agake[]

In hospital, Touru's grandfather said he was getting pretty old and might even die tomorrow. Enjoying some apples, he mentioned Touru never knows what will happen in life. Where it has been decided that Touru will inherit his fortune, he said starting tomorrow his sons will probably come by to try and become his guardian. Saying for Touru to do his best to choose, he wanted to leave him with not just a guardian but something else.

Touru's Friend[]

A student sat near Touru in class who is surprised at Tsukitani's reaction to an incorrect question.

Touru's Friend[]

After class, he observes how Tsukitani is really soft when it comes to Touru.

Touru's Father[]

Having passed away, in the past he was glad that he rushed back home. Touru's father said it had been a while since he had a meal with him. Eating with a family and having a conversation, he found it was a lot more delicious than eating alone.

Touru's Mother[]

She was remembered as being happy eating with Touru and his father when they were together.

Story[]

At the table, three family members, two men and a woman speak amongst themselves about Touru Agake living with them. Having had the conversation before, Touru says for them to please let him study for exams. Remembering seeing his grandfather in hospital, where he felt he could pass away, Touru spoke how after his successful operation he can leave within the next month, the doctor said so. Touru was shocked when his grandfather bequeathed him his fortune, yet wished for him to find more than a guardian.

In class, lecturer Tsukitani Touji mentions how the "family" answer was wrong, and the "it" refers to the "cat" mentioned two sentences ago. With class ended, two of Touru's friends discuss how Tsukitani is really soft on him, where his reaction is seen as terrifying should someone else have made a mistake. Wondering whether he did something to get Tsukitani to like him, Touru answers no.

With family meetings leaving no time to study, outside Touru considers he has already failed his entrance exams once. When Tsukitani joins him, Touru shares his predicament involving his grandfather collapsing recently. Where relatives and inheritance was brought into it, Touru states he is not even close to the former. After affirming in that case they are just ties until he is independent, Tsukitani adds there is barely a year left until Touru is an adult. Speaking that adults do not have as much power over him as he thinks, Tsukitani advises Touru to not think too hard on it.

Since Touru made him give advice like this, Tsukitani says he missed dinner. Finding it unexpected, Touru details with Tsukitani being this kind he would not mind them living together. Realizing that he has math next, Touru hears Tsukitani tell him to organize his family meeting on Saturday the 10th. After asking what for, Tsukitani replies it might just be his lucky day.

Touru chooses Tsukitani - Family Affair

Choosing a guardian

Upon the day of the meeting, Touru finds Tsukitani greeting him as nephew, and share with others how is his youngest uncle. Disregarding the protests of a family member, Tsukitani immediately says for Touru to choose who he wants to go with. Remembering Tsukitani's words to not think too hard on it and just choose, Touru thought he was saying that, so points to him. Instructing him to not bring anything, when Touru asks is he not going to move in here, Tsukitani questions who would want to live in a house like this. Speaking how if it were not for him he would have never come back, Tsukitani says to hurry up and follow. Removing his clothes since Tsukitani meant leaving everything related to Agake behind, Touru feels he may have made the wrong choice.[1]

It is remembered when Touru was a child where his father came home early to eat with him and his mother. When Touru asked whether that was a good thing, his father replied of course it is. Eating together with a family like this and having a conversation, Touru's father felt it was a lot more delicious than eating alone. Waking from the dream with just his underwear on, Touru remembers the drive back like that with Tsukitani. Angered that he would do such a thing as having him in just his underwear, Touru is further aggrieved that he is snoring loudly, and keeps the futon to himself. Hardly welcoming, Tsukitani speaks how he loathes Agake and will not have Touru use the money since it is from him.

While Touru says he will buy new clothes, and not have ones not from the house, Tsukitani replies no way before questioning whether he wants to stop living with him. Although Tsukitani states he will buy new clothes, he insists Touru had better be grateful. Intending to earn the money himself, Touru details how he has been studying hard and working part time as well before. Where the situation has changed with the family meetings coming around, and now his present living conditions, Touru feels it cannot be helped so he will need to access his savings.

Throwing at coat at him and calling him weird, Tsukitani's hostilities continue with clarifying that when he said he would buy clothes for him, it is more of an investment on his part. Making it no secret that he will have Touru repay him double later, Tsukitani then decides in the end he will have access to the fortune through him. Telling Touru to wear the overly large coat he threw at him, it leaves him with nothing but his underwear underneath.

Out shopping, in response to Tsukitani's stroppy question on whether he could have gone out on his own to buy clothes, Touru answers he does not know his way around here at all. Further, Touru states Tsukitani could at least show him around since they will be living together from now on. His stomach grumbling, Touru speaks how it is already 2pm. Asking Tsukitani if he is hungry, Touru sensibly suggests they go and get lunch somewhere. Snapping that he is not eating, Tsukitani says see ya. Having class at 4, Tsukitani sees it fit to leave Touru alone here, so in his words he can laze around.

Remembering how happy he was as a child eating with his parents, Touru grabs Tsukitani's clothing. Not wanting to eat alone since he finds it lonely, it is more the case where Touru has been doing that since his grandfather is in hospital. While Tsukitani is angered at the idea of eating with him, with no empathy at all to Touru's feelings of loneliness, never-mind that his grandfather is seriously ill in hospital as they speak, Touru reaches a point that might sway him. Mentioning how he is going along with Tsukitani's whole "Agake-hate" thing, it is a means to an end for Touru to ask could they at least eat together.

After a moment of sulking, Tsukitani decides that is fine. Eating noodles together, Tsukitani does not engage with Touru's happiness, rather demands that he stop staring. After Touru addresses his appalling table manners, Tsukitani is quick to state he eats this way to spite those who nagged him how to hold a bowl and that. Where Tsukitani was younger he was taught table manners, flower arrangement, and ceremonies too. Around that time, Touru played baseball. Where his grandfather was always surrounded by these muscular, suit wearing people, Tsukitani knows they were bodyguards. After Touru comments that he made them play catch with him, Tsukitani questions was he not scared.

Turning to the matter of a concrete covering in the backyard, Touru feels something used to be there. With that, Tsukitani commands him to hurry up and eat, or he will leave him behind. Ordering some smooth apricot tofu, Touru then presents it to Tsukitani. Where Touru thought he might be irritated with all the questions, the pudding is for Tsukitani to feel better. Laughing, and regarding the kind gesture as a cheap bribe, Tsukitani then remarks that Touru is so different from the people in that house.

Afterwards, Tsukitani orders Touru to not tell anyone at the school that they live together or there would be too many questions. Thanking Tsukitani for having lunch with him, he replies that dinner is usually had in the break room, but breakfast and lunch he can have with Touru. Although Tsukitani just walks off, Touru is so happy. With Tsukitani saying he would have breakfast with him, Touru feels it is like they are a family.

Considering that he would think of family with anyone other than his grandfather, Touru heads to visit him in hospital. Contemplating how it should be alright, there are things Touru wants to tell and ask him. Finding his relative there, he is worried for Touru since Touji is messed up in the head in his view. When Touru asks how he could say that about his brother, the relative answers they are not related by blood as Touji is adopted. Mentioning that Touru would understand Touji's true nature soon enough, he describes him as a criminal. Raising if Touru wants to run, it is now or never, the relative also states if he wants to move to his place he will welcome him.

When Touru wants to know what his relative means by Touji being a criminal, he receives no answer. With his grandfather weak right now, Touru cannot ask him. Meaning to go back for today, Touru considers the "adopted" and "criminal" words used. While considering that Tsukitani can be unreasonable, and stubborn, he cannot think of him as his uncle said. In class, Touru wonders that the hell happened to Tsukitani in that house.[2]
