Additionally Jiang is in the manhua adaption written by Wu Zhe and illustrated by Xi Yao which has the English names of Warm Sun and Saye. Having to move to a new city, Jiang naturally goes his own way yet would draw closer to Gu Fei, more so given his changing views on his family.
Background[]
Outright anguish over his family circumstances
He was raised by Shen Yiqing and her husband who he believed were his parents until he learned he was adopted. His friends included Pan Zhi who he keeps in contact with. Cheng had been skipping school, such as on one occasion when he wanted to visit who he thought was his dad in hospital when he was ill with pneumonia. Deeply impacted at the revelation of his family situation, Cheng moves to another city to live with his biological father, Li Baoguo. That Baoguo is a gambler and alcoholic does little to help Cheng in his state. Upon meeting his biological family, which includes elder siblings Li Hui and Li Qian, among nephews, nieces and in-laws, where they all argue Cheng literally breaks his way out his situation by smashing his room window and seeking out Fei.
Although he not played it in some time, he remains skilled at basketball. His further strengths are practice questions where Jiang is academically gifted. His maths and science grades are better than his humanities ones. Jiang is also capable of playing the Irish whistle as well as the piano. Able to use slingshots, Jiang can strike targets far away. In his memory box is a slingshot and a keychain he made.
Characteristics[]
Having a moment
Feeling he cannot sleep without taking a bath, Cheng attempts to heat a bucket of water before being stressed by a tap spraying in his face. Not wanting to go back to Baoguo's he thinks to buy a bottle of water and some medicine. Coming across some shady appearing men in a convenience store Cheng wonders if they want to fight. Not afraid of violence himself, Cheng uses a mop to cause the classroom ceiling debris to fall on a student after the student threw some at Fei. He's also a capable fighter too and is willing to defend others.
When he found Miao being assaulted by other children, Cheng helped her by answering them that he was a dude with a knife. Give him thirty seconds and he would give them the same haircut as her. Instructing Miao to stop following him, Cheng stated he was in a bad mood right now and not to bug him. Regardless he contacted her brother to come pick her up.
Adamant he will not be retuning home, Cheng comments the friends he had are not really that close, he has not seen them for a few months and no one is willing to come where he is. In feeling this is the case, Cheng can be weighed down by his circumstances where he feels little option but to endure the worst. This was exacerbated by his life being changed. Considering it a slum city when arriving to his new location, Cheng felt it was unfamiliar and cold.
This affected his views on others which could be dismal though that was a reflection of how he felt inside. Observing him play, Cheng comments to Zhi that Fei is not as good compared to their team. In class Cheng wonders if Qicai as a teacher is a decoration as he is doing nothing to deter the mean spirited comments from other students. Action is taken in such cases. Noticing that students are not paying attention to the homeroom teacher, Cheng loudly comments whether Qicai is waiting for them to be quiet, before introducing himself instead of having the teacher do it.
Aspirations[]
Feeling distant from everything to drawing closer to Fei
One thing he did not want was to find his biological dad as he was, neither the derelict apartment he was to live in. On account of his circumstances, Cheng was not forthcoming to anyone and sought to fix things himself. Initially he declined Fei's offer of giving him a ride, to resolving to heat his own water for bathing and getting medicine when he fell ill. Further interactions with Fei were beneficial. Seated beside him he beholds a sweet Fei has but only likes the milk flavored ones.
Introduced to his family at Baoguo's has an inimical effect on him. Clutching his head Cheng processes that this is his real home and if he had grown up in this environment would have he behave as they do. Reflecting on his own explosive nature Cheng is further agonized on whether it was all genetically inherited.
The overload would results in him proceeding in a different avenue all the faster. Resorting to smashing his window with a chair, Cheng cuts his hand on the shattered glass as he climbs out yet is utterly unfazed. While he does not want Fei to see him in such a sorry state Cheng makes his way to him.
