The Action Genre involves series that may have fast-paced events happening, with intense scenarios taking place among other areas. Where Yaoi series can also be a part of the action genre, it's the same as stories featuring characters who may be involved in opposite-sex relationships. As with any character, they may be a part of storylines involving heroic battles, or weapon using fight scenes, among other intense scenarios.

Yaoi Action[]

Conflicts including battle scenes can be a feature of series in the action genre. There can be weaponry being used such as modern day machine guns, to medieval crossbow fire - utensils from any era, of any type. Suspense would often be incorporated into action series where there would be tension as to who would prevail in a fight scene. As a story takes place, there may be a build-up to a fight that is to occur, a pre-battle arrangement which serves as a calm before a storm, for instance. Where a series can be involved in more than one genre, a drama based situation can be the prelude to an action one. Being trapped in a room and needing to escape through a ventilation duct can be an action scene with thriller aspects intertwined.

From a superhero racing in to punch a target, or firing supernatural based powers at them, being in physically perilous situations may be featured in action series. Heroically battling out of peril can also be a feature. For overlapping storylines, an action adventure series may feature characters traversing a landscape as a journey takes place, and then drawing weaponry to take on foes, at multiple points. The action aspects are in the intense fights at hand wherever they occur in a story. There can be multiple cases of this, or just one particularly intense one. The number, or intensity of an action sequence can cause a series to be classified as one, on a case by case basis. There can be overlap with sports series for example, particularly mixed martial arts. A training session in a gym would make a sporting series, the same mixed martial arts being used against criminal gangs constitutes action, where the setting a series covers can be important for the classification.

Series can feature many action scenes, which might not just concern fighting but the pressure involved in rescuing someone from falling debris for example. A fast-paced chase scene involving any classification of vehicles would also be action intensive. Where the focus is on delivering action for a storyline, the dramatic elements such as the limits to the number of bullets, or swords becoming dulled, these wouldn't likely be touched upon at all. It wouldn't necessarily be pondered where the sheer number of bullets are coming from, neither why any weapon has lost its edge. Where action is concerned, a continuous blasting of artillery with infinite bullets, and the ever cleave through anything sword in an action series is there to look amazing.

Prevalence[]

Yaoi series with the action genre are featured here. That there is not a great number of action series compared to other genres does not mean that there is not still a sizable number. While it is a few at a time, Yaoi action series have been released steadily over the years. Over four hundred stories that heavily feature action remains a tremendous amount. Some series may not classify themselves as a part of the action genre, they may embrace drama, or fantasy themes more for examples, but they can still feature action based situations nonetheless.

Formats[]

Anime[]

Moving animation sequences can capture the fast-paced intensity of an action series. Intense and dramatic music is another means of enhancing the effect. Special effects such as axes being enveloped in flames can be shown in animated situations. The Spiritpact anime shows Tanmoku deploying a magical blast as he works to vanquish an evil spirit as a fight scene breaks out, and action is also shown when Keika is engaging a foe with his sword. Anime allows the sudden magical burst with the sounds effects to be impactful, and although a sword rush lacks those effects it remains tense as this different fight remains an effective action sequence as well. Plenty of action can be shown in the The Legend of the Blue Wolves OVA in which humanity finds itself under attack from invaders set on ending mankind and use giant mechanical bodies for battling.

Drama CDs[]

The urgency of a situation can be shown by a particular manner of speaking, to talking out loud on a matter to show the event at hand. The AWM: PUBG series concerns characters partaking in the titular shooting e-sports game of which the action is present there. In terms of the drama CD adaption of this story, of which voice actors speak the character lines from the AWM: PUBG novel, the intensity of the action can be clear in where shooters are to be directed throughout the game battlefield. Drama CDs, a format name of which storylines can be listened to via an app also enable production values such as background music and sound effects to make it clearer that there is action at hand.

Games[]

For the range of game formats, such as puzzle, to shooting-based ones, among other varieties, action stories can be shown throughout. An action series can have a puzzle game featuring the characters, where the gameplay itself may not be action based, but it can remain a format entry for an action series. The majority of Yaoi games are visual novels. These visual novels can be played on computers where a range of story paths can be chosen. In Togainu no Chi there is an action storyline as crime syndicates vie for control after a devastating war. In-universe, characters partake in a battle game. It terms of a real world person playing the game on a computer, a comment or direction can be chosen for a character to interact with one particular different character over another, in which case the action story plays out there. For visual novels, action sequences could be like slides depicted, in contrast to an anime with more elaborate moving sequences, or a shooting game that may come to mind when action games are thought of.

Japanese Manga[]

Where manga originates from Japan, generally the depictions of action sequences are able to be understood. Visual additions such as an expansion of lines around a situation may indicate raised voices in an arduous situation. As with any visual medium, action would be clear from sword strikes being exchanged across the black and white panels that manga is made up of. Color, animation, sound effects, none of these would be needed where a manga by itself is perfectly capable of depicting a heroic figure taking out adversaries, indeed has its own way of showing that further. In the Isekai no Sata wa Shachiku Shidai the action taking place is evident upon swords being drawn, and enemies threatening a region being dealt with.

Chinese Manhua[]

Action is not something that needs a cultural understanding, people fighting monsters in an action situation can be shown easily in the colored panels of manhua showing characters doing exactly that. While it is not an action series because it's a more supernatural based storyline, there are still battles depicted in Devil Wants To Hug of which the war settings are action occurrences.

Korean Manhwa[]

The colored manhwa panels of Korean manhwa as with all the print materials are a way to showcase action sequences. For Look Back at the Embers in a series with love themes between a member of a one-winged species in a fantasy world, the action is clear with the magical blasts and light radiating swords used to fend off the demon race.

Novels[]

Action sequences can be depicted in text, and works even without any visuals at all which may be considered of notable importance to depicting a fight scene. Characters engaging in gun fights, with the intensity of a situation being shown in the words used to relay that there is an explosion that is to take place where a character needs to reach a certain point can relay the action at hand. In Banished to Another World a doctor being transported to a savage land where spears are used enables action scenarios to be written about.

Universal Webtoons[]

An endless stream of bullets for a fight in an action series for the intensity

Stories in color depicted online can be action series. As with the above formats, generally action series can feature the same happenings regardless of the country they are taking place in. For genres such as comedy, what is considered funny can differ between cultures. For action, high-stake situations and intense fights tend to be more of a universally understood theme. In characters handling the pulse-pounding danger in Codename: Anastasia, machine gun blasting from a helicopter is an action scene for all. A gritty storyline is all the more effective for the action in Shutline. In a real world setting of a modern city, the guns involved in tense situations can get the feeling across.
