A Dead Crow's Stare is a completed webtoon at forty four chapters, in addition to the prologue and two side stories. It is written and illustrated by N.Bob, with illustrations also by Lol. First released in 2017, it has been serialized in magazines such as Bomtoon, Lezhin, MrBlue, Ridibooks, BookCube, and Comico Korea. The publisher is PeanuToon.
Synopsis[]
Jinu is a weak coward left in a world full of zombies, ruled by survival of the fittest. Then, there are those other survivors who would use him, or perhaps even protect him. In the midst of survivors fighting for the sake of survival, fun, and desire, what will Jinu's fate be?

Yun Jinu[]
Trembling as he witnesses a man attacked by zombies, amongst other group members Jinu is often ignored thanks to what is described as his weak-natured heart that from another perspective resembles concern for others. Used as bait Jinu manages to avoid zombies but harbors further negative sentiment towards others who voice unpleasant comments at him. Having not killed a zombie before Jinu has been carrying bags. Panicking at having his leg caught by a zombie Jinu is saved by a thrown axe. Called Asian by another person Jinu thinks they are helpless against a new group they are found by. Alarmed at Alex coming towards him Jinu thinks he is big and handsome yet something about him seems off. With Jake attempting to kill him but dying first Jinu escapes then sees Alex outside. Jinu has not noticed he had been bitten on the leg. Travelling alone with him Jinu is confused by Alex since he shows anger at how children were treated in contrast to his previous actions. As they search a store Jinu is awed that they are looting but keeps a book he finds detailing a refuge to himself. Hearing that Alex let the zombies in the refuge Jinu does think to himself he would capable of that and says sorry on his behalf. His first impression of Julia is that she is a ghost and Jinu wonders if she is mentally ill. Jinu has survived due to others, is very fearful, yet constantly avoids killing zombies.

Alex Anderson[]
Saving Jinu from a zombie Alex then throws his axe near the feet of one of the armed men he is with. Angered, he demands to know what they just said to a kid regarding calling dibs on him. Ordering Jake to shut up, Alex continues his conversation with Jinu and is perplexed by him. Things that tremble only know how to rummage around and Alex has a good idea. That is to send Jinu's group to a house where Alex arrives later. With Jake brought before him Alex remarks he is no fun at all and has completely passed out. It has been a while since he felt this annoyed. Taking them to a prison compound Alex drags Jake towards the zombies then hands Jinu his gun. Alex says to shoot Jake then he will be the one the save him. Cleaving into zombies Alex remarks this is more exciting than he had imagined. Finding him outside Alex comments how he thought Jinu would have been caught and eaten by now. With a gun pointed at him Alex states Jinu looks so cute threatening but he should at least close his legs. When Jinu feels it is strange there is a lack of zombies in a city Alex replies he thinks Jinu is much more weird. Not able to believe that Jinu has just noticed he has not turned and his leg is healing Alex speculates whether Jinu is immune. Having Simon lead them to the refuge, within and unaware of the zombie attack, Alex addresses how Jinu missed him that much that he was crying. Seeing Julia he says to stay still and can she drop the knife. Viewed by some as psychotic and certainly acting like it, Alex thrives in the zombie overrun world.

Rob[]
21, he is Billy's childhood friend and travels with Jake and Jinu. As someone is being killed Rob thinks they do not know whether he was a good or bad person. If they do not have a good plan Rob suggests they go another way. When Jinu is used as bait Rob guides him to the forklift from his vantage point atop the shelves. Rob alone grabs Jinu's hand after he falls. With Jake mentioning it Rob agrees with his account that if Jinu had not jumped first then Billy would have lived and accordingly Rob says now he will not be able to look after Jinu. With Jake he ties Jinu up and leaves him as a distraction yet exiting the house they are in, Rob's arm is bitten. He is helped up the stairs by Jake and manages to reach the window. Standing on the ledge Rob has turned into a zombie.
Jake[]
At 21 he orders Jinu to go down and bring a man's stuff back who is still being attacked by zombies. Acting like he is the party's leader, it does work when he runs towards a zombie from behind and brings an axe down on its head. Agreeing that Jinu should be bait, Jake adds that who else has just been watching from the back this whole time. Leaping first to a railing, Jake focuses on Billy falling from the shelving he is on so fails to catch Jinu who has jumped. With Billy calling for help Jake says to the others no way and raises whether that jerk understands the situation he is in. As Billy is set upon by zombies Jake shouts for him to stop screaming. Seeing that Billy is still alive but with a wounded leg Jake directs for them to go and it is fine as long as they get out of here safely. Outside he voices genuinely that it feels awful to have lost another person. When Alex and his group join them Jake shouts at Jinu on why he is just sitting there while Alex steals their food rations. Advised by Rob to leave it this time, Jake questions if he should when that ginger nut case is pigging out on their food. Demanding to know if Alex is ignoring him Jake orders him to apologize but his efforts to assert authority falter with an axe placed near his face. Hearing the situation they were in was dangerous, Jake replies if it were not for Jinu's lack of action it would not have turned out like this. In the house they rest in, with Rob he ties Jinu up with rope and means to leave the door open. If the zombies come in they go out the back door. Addressing him Jake says since Jinu has only been helped by them so far they should get some help from him. Gripping Jinu's hair Jake asks how he is going to make up for the other kids being left out for two years because of his stupidity. Jake defends Rob from a zombie when he is bitten and takes him up the stairs as he tells Rob to hang in there. Stating he is sorry Jake asks if Rob is okay. Resolving for them to throw their luggage away Jake has them escape out the window. Captured by Alex and in a cell with Jinu he tells him they do not have time to panic and presses them to think how to escape first. Evident that is not the situation and there are people including Alex above watching them, Jake acts in accordance with the implied understanding and proceeds to beat Jinu. Telling him to keep being stupid Jake says he is going to be the one to live. With Jinu on the ground Jake announces he won and for the others to let him join their group. Being shot in the leg since Alex never told them to fight, Jake is placed in the hands on zombies. Jake's skin is ripped by the zombies that can reach him through the bars and then he is covered in more of them when Jinu unlocks the gate to allow the zombies access to everyone. Having managed to escape them Jake's body is bloodied and he grabs Jinu who is fleeing then says he is dying with him. Strangling him and saying he will absolutely not die alone Jake adds it is not him doing this, Jinu brought it upon himself. Jakes dies from the zombie inflicted wounds before he can kill Jinu.
Billy[]
Educating Jinu that he needs to go down when there are not zombies, Billy comments further that he is a loser. 21, Billy deals with stress by bullying Jinu and suggests to Jake they throw him away. Billy refers to Jinu as an 'it' also when adding if it stays with them they will have a hard time. His way of dealing with a group of zombies is to sacrifice a man to lure them. He whispers to Jake that Rob is pretending to take care of Jinu. With the others jumping across to another ledge, Billy thinks he is weak and would not make it. However if Jinu the helpless flake fell into the zombies then he would have an opening to climb up the stairs. Before Billy could enact his plan or kick Jinu, the shelving unit he is stood on comes lose from the screws breaking at the bottom and Billy topples down with it. Trapped, Billy in his anger blames Jinu for going first even though he told him to. Using a broken off piece of metal to stab into a zombie's head, Billy then manages to free himself. Shouting on whether they are really leaving Billy clarifies his leg injury is not due to a bite, just from being pinned. As his clothes are seized by zombies Billy shouts he is going to survive before repeating for him to be saved as the flesh around his cheeks is torn.
Simon[]
Addressed as Sr. Simon he addresses his own apprehensive demenour when Alex approaches with the rationale that they have to be cautious these days. Taken aback by Alex noting the stuff he and the men with him have gathered Simon feels it would be hard to part ways with any supplies since they have been looking for them a long time. Instead Simon suggests Alex come to where they are from, a place called the refuge. Explaining it is a safe place against the zombies and filled with a lot of people, Simon continues that Alex can come along with his friend, who was not near Alex and thus he should have no knowledge about. With Alex aware of the refuge Simon is further at ease at the familiarity as he says since they know each other it should be easier to talk. More than happy to answer questions, Simon does not at once register thad Paul beside him has has Alex's axe thrown into his head. Asked how he was aware of Alex's companion, Simon reveals it is true they have been following them but they do not have any bad intentions. Guiding them to the refuge, Simon would show up at Jinu's room and says finally something young has come after a long time. He thinks everyone is lucky except for poor Jinu. He tells Julia that at first she was different but is now nothing but a rat, and questions whether they eat their own brothers. With Alex having killed Carter he tells others to calm down for them to rationally solve this. Checking if his name is Alex, his question is where he got the bombs from. Explaining he is that kind of man, Simon says if Alex gives them the bombs he will be able to leave the refuge without any problems. His offer refused, Simon deems Alex's move of axing the men beside him impossible.
Paul[]
Along with Simon and a few other members of the refuge Paul had been searching for food supplies. Approached by Alex he has an axe thrown into him when Alex noted that Simon was aware of Jinu's presence.
Julia[]
Approaching Jinu in the refuge Julia states it is nice to meet him. Having first contacted him via a letter Julia reveals herself as the sender having guessed Jinu did not eat the meat as she said. Asking if the red head is a pedophile, Julia apologizes having misunderstood the situation since Jinu is an adult and one who knows Alex. Mentioning that her brother is not even 15 yet Julia asks Jinu what he thinks of this place. Speaking that Jinu looks safe Julia mentions how all the livestocks here are mean and cruel but there is also a bunch of beasts who only want young animals. Feeling that Jinu is like her brother, Julia advises him that a good child should lock the door and sleep tight. Brought along to Jinu's room by Simon she greets him and asks why he did not close the door. Finding Alex and Jinu outside when they comment on the knife she has Julia says it is amazing they caught her.
Carter[]
At the refuge he straps Jinu to a table with body parts hanging around in the room. Under the impression Jinu is a virgin, Carter asks before he dies does he want to try it out. Assuring Jinu that he does not have to be afraid, Carter shares that they have a lot of experience. Carter reverses his tone at seeing that Jinu was bit by a zombie. Wondering why someone who was bitten was brought in Carter shouts that they should kill him before he turns then instantly has his upper head sliced off by Alex.
Dave Nelson[]
At 30 he is stood shirtless when come across by Jinu. Friendly and respectful Dave maintains a poker face smile even when being shoved away but he does care for others. He can evade Alex's axe swing yet his short swords are avoided and blocked in turn. Dave then seizes Jinu and runs away with him since he was of the view that Alex was a menace to him. The other side to his carefree personality is an efficient way of dealing with zombies to match that of Alex. Leaving the people he was with, Dave would stick with Jinu and Alex.
Story[]
Those who have adapted to life with zombies, those who have adapted to a life of murder
On one day two years ago, without warning or any perceptible cause, zombies appeared. The world turned to chaos, and zombies were no longer the only ones to threaten survival since people resorted to pillaging and killing each other. In a world full of zombies survivors live for survival's sake, fun, and desire and would use a weak and cowardly Jinu. The smell of blood mixes with hatred, humiliation and fear.
Yun jumping to Jake and Rob as Billy falls
On top of a building Jinu watches as a man below is caught by zombies who violently crunch and chew into him. Rob with his friend Billy and Jake who acts like he is the leader are also present.[1] Jake kills as zombie as they gather supplies but there is no way out of the second floor. Jake and Billy plan to use the gap between a forklift truck where someone could distract the zombies. Telling the others he cannot do this, Jinu asks if they are sure he will not be eaten but he is pushed out into where the zombies are ambling. Managing to reach the other side with guidance from Rob, the others follow and reach the top of some shelving. One by one they jump to the other side yet the structure falls with Billy still remaining on it.[2]
Jinu's leg is grasped by a zombie
Billy has survived the fall but is pinned down. When zombies advance, the others intend to leave him yet Billy manages to stab one, free himself and can walk. Jake sees his wounded leg but Billy states it is not due to a zombie bite. They leave regardless and Billy is sure he will escape as well. Billy insists he is going to survive and pleads as he is pulled backwards by the zombies. Jinu covers his ears from the screams. Outside they address the food supplies they acquired. Water is found in a nearby car so Jinu is ordered to take the portable crowbar out his bag. A zombie under a vehicle seizes Jinu's leg and an axe thrown that saves him.[3]
Alex wondering how Jinu survived after saving him
Asked who they are, Jake retorts they asked first but Alex Anderson is joined by other men who wield guns. Alex will not hear anything from Jake who is angered at him taking some peach flavored Molkang bread from Jinu and instead speaks to him regarding the lack of zombies he has killed. Letting them go, Jake with Rob and Jinu are sent to an apartment complex where children have been turned into zombies. Resting in the apartment Jinu wakes up to find Jake and Rob gone. Peeking outside the window he sees a zombie has found him.[4] Locating Jake and Rob he is then tied up by by them. They leave him with a knife and commend him as a good screamer as they head for the backdoor. A zombie is there and bites into Rob's arm. Jake takes Rob upstairs and they make it outside the window. Stood on the ledge, when Jake asks if Rob is all right he sees he has transformed into a zombie.[5]
When Jinu loses Alex never told Jake to fight him
Hearing Jake's screams Jinu notices an axe deal with a zombie. Alex announces the last one is done and Jinu wonders if he came after them. One of Alex's men brings Jake and then Jinu is found by Alex. After falling unconscious Jinu awakens where Alex checks his private area before dressing him. Alex is angered that Jinu did not take his chance and he is placed in a cell with Jake. People around them listen as Alex announces this last chance should be more spectacular than the last one.[6] Jake catches onto what he assumes is the situation and brutally kicks Jinu. With him down and beaten Jake announces he won and to let him join their group. Alex shoots Jake in the leg since he never ordered them to fight then hands Jinu the gun.[7]
Jake survives the zombies and strangles Jinu
As Jinu considers whether to shoot Jake but deciding against it, Alex stops Jinu from shooting himself. Seeing Jake's skin being ripped by the zombies Jinu aims the gun at him before turning and running to the door to let all the zombies into the premises. The guards are told not to fire to save ammo and Alex is none to bothered in the commotion. Jinu escapes and Alex begins hacking into zombies.[8] Seeing a window to escape from Jinu is caught by Jake who also avoided the zombies although he is heavily bloodied. Meaning to strangle him, Jake dies before Jinu but his reanimated zombie self pursues him. Jinu makes it out the window yet Alex is outside. In his frame of mind Jinu tries to fire the gun but the safety is on. Alex notices that Jinu has been bitten and since he cannot even use a weapon Alex says for Jinu to follow him.[9]
Jinu returns and Alex is impressed he tried to escape
With his hands bound with rope Jinu is led by Alex through an arid road. Every time Jinu faints he finds himself in a different place. While Jinu can free himself and escape he returns since he questions his chances of living on his own. Alex smells Jinu so takes him to shower. Removing his clothes Alex then decides to shower with him.[10] A zombie is dealt with by Alex and Jinu uses it as another excuse to dress and leave before anything else happens. Deciding to stay with Alex he goes about hiding from other zombies until he finds him. Alex was monitoring and questions how he handled this. He then asks if Jinu chooses to live or die.[11]
Reaching a city and gathering supplies including details of a refuge
A sound alerts them to possible zombies and Jinu complies with Alex's direction to stay close and not get in the way. In the next room there are zombies hung up on meat hooks, the majority of which are kids. After burying them, Jinu and Alex continue until they reach a dilapidated city. Within a premises Jinu notices a book with writing indicating a refuge.[12] The accompanying nerves that come with concealing the book from Alex practically results in Jinu lowering his guard for half a zombie to grab him. Jinu pleads with Alex to save him. Standing indifferently, Alex passes a knife but Jinu givesthe excuse it is too far. With it about Alex not saving him Jinu is kissed and then afterwards is told to answer the question of whether he wants to live. Alex is pleased with the affirmative answer.[13]
Setting out for the refuge while being unknowingly followed
Having not even been walking for an hour Jinu asks if they can take a break. Alex advises the best way for Jinu to hold his knife. As it proceeds to kissing Jinu tells him to stop and hits Alex before retiring to his own room to regard the journal and how he could be free of this pervert. Alex apologizes for his actions then notices the book.[14] Deciding to head to an area where they will not have to walk and avoid zombies as per Jinu's desires they acquire some clothes for themselves in preparation. Setting out they are unknowingly observed by someone. While they sleep Alex notices Jinu stir. Experiencing a nightmare Jinu hears a woman inform him they are practicing for the graduation ceremony and he is asked what the point of being locked up is. Unsure of the school and ceremony mentioned Jinu sees the woman unlock the door to let in the security guard. More were present and the woman was overcome by them and asked Jinu to save her. Jinu's heads is clutched and he sees the woman's graphically distorted face then is asked why is he not the same as her. Waking up, Jinu wonders why he has not turned yet.[15] Considering a possible immunity, they have been together for weeks but Alex considers with it taking two to three days for a person to transform others may not believe Jinu has an immunity anyway.
Calling for Jinu to come over so they can be led to the refuge
During a search for condoms, outside a convenience store Jinu spots at least four armed men. While Jinu is apprehensive Alex is anything but and casually walks out towards them.[16] Showing that he is unarmed and questioning them on their nervous stances, Alex requests they share some of what they have. One man replies they have been looking for food for a long time then suggests that Alex and his friend come with them. Divulging that they are from the refuge which has lots of people Alex reacts by throwing his axe into one of the members, Paul. In their personal space Alex presses them to say how they knew he had a companion. Simon admits they had been following them but not for bad intentions. Alex calls Jinu over and has Simon lead them to the refuge.
Arriving in a walled town where people live peacefully
After spending the night within the walled town Jinu finds Alex is not in the room when he awakens. Asking the citizens around town for his whereabouts Jinu hears his partner left in the morning. The man states where Alex went is not the problem now, and zombies are heard inside the walls. Hiding under a bed Jinu is found by a zombie who checks under it.[17] Saved by someone in the room shooting it Jinu hears that this was due to Alex's actions. Those in the room explain this is the result of people who have been out there too long and is what happens to them when they let outsiders come in. They are aware Alex killed Paul and with Jinu feeling down due to their views on him by association and Alex having left he resolves to get his hair cut. Feeling cursed over the situation Jinu turns to find Alex having entered the fourth story window. He says had went out to acquire condoms.[18]
Julia warns about the meat and beasts who want young animals
By morning Alex is absent again and Jinu tells a man outside who has come to repair a wall that he does not feel well as a reason for him to not come in while he is naked. With another knock at the door a letter is slipped underneath it.[19] From someone who asks why they did not close the window, the note ends for them not to worry since they are not prejudiced. It also advises that the meat being served today might have gone bad and to not eat it. Someone brings Jinu food to eat having heard he was sick. With the meat it is discussed whether Jinu noticed anything. As Jinu clears zombie corpses outside he is sought out by Julia who sent him the letter. She warns him to keep his doors locked at night. Alex is out and Jinu follows Julia's guidance but as he reaches the door Simon with some other men are there.[20]
Alex saves Jinu from being kidnapped and has explosives prepared
Julia has been dragged along and Jinu awakens with her in what she thinks is a meat freezer. Simon has an axe that resembles Alex's and says he found it beside a body. Jinu is led down a corridor and strapped to a table. His nice young skin is commended and the man, Carter, who has lots of experience wants to try it. Noticing the bite mark on Jinu he quickly changes to saying they should kill him before his head is cut off just under the nose. Alex has found Jinu and in response laughs that he is not dead. After dealing with others Jinu hears a sound and Alex states it must be the thing he prepared.[21] Declining Simon's offer of handing over the bombs and leaving, Alex kills him with an axe instead and escapes with Jinu. Outside the surroundings are on fire and they are joined by Julia. Alex tells her to drop the knife.[22]
